Pall Showerhead Water Filters
A research facility at a prestigious London university had major refurbishment
works carried out to its domestic hot water services, including new pipework
and a replacement hot water system.
Unfortunately this resulted in dead legs in the hot water pipework and Legionella
testing found Legionella bacteria in a previously uncontaminated building. As a
result, stringent Legionella control procedures were required to be implemented immediately.
Hydro-X Recommended Pall Showerhead Filters.
Closing down the facility and carrying out disinfection services was not an option as several
departments were carrying out long term experiments.
Hydro-X surveyed the building in conjunction with a senior maintenance engineer and
together identified a selection of outlets throughout the building that were essential to maintain in use.
To control the Legionella bacteria Hydro-X supplied Pall Showerhead Filters which are anti-legionella
filters to render these outlets safe. Hydro-X organized an overnight delivery and a
Hydro-X engineer visited as soon as the Pall Showerhead Filters were delivered to fit
them and the necessary tap adaptors.
For the medium term Legionella control program Hydro-X recommended, delivered and installed 2
Hydro-safe chlorine dioxide dosing units. For long term Legionella Control we undertook the
necessary pipework alterations. Regular Legionella Testing took place during this period and
the dual approach of the Pall Showerhead filters and the Hydro-Safe unit ensured that Legionella
bacteria was controlled and there was no risk to the building users.
