Course Information

It’s not unusual for delegates on an introductory course to think that accidents only happen to ‘other people’. This module stresses the realities of the human suffering behind the statistics and emphasises the importance of personal responsibility.

This module puts ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ into everyday language and uses familiar examples to show what can happen. Importantly, it makes it clear that even something that is very simple or repeated over and over again can go wrong, with serious consequences. Focusing on the six broad hazard groups, delegates are asked to think about the hazards and risks they come across in their own work. ‘Risk assessment’ is demystified – delegates learn that we all carry out informal assessments day-in, day-out.

All the main issues are covered in this module – aggression and violence, asbestos, bullying, chemicals and harmful substances, computer workstations, confined spaces, drugs and alcohol, electricity, fire, getting in and out, height, housekeeping, lighting, manual handling, noise, personal hygiene, plant and machinery, slips and trips, stress, temperature, vehicles and transport, and welfare facilities. Each area is backed by crystal-clear examples and recognisable scenarios, and useful summaries reinforce the key
learning points.

This module deals with systems and processes, making sure that any jargon is explained in easily understood terms. The session bridges
the gap between management and workforce, encouraging delegates to play a part in processes that are commonly seen as being the
responsibility of just their manager or supervisor. Other areas – including contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, protective equipment, signage, emergency procedures, reporting and health checks – focus on the delegate’s point of view.

IOSH Working Safely Training is intended to enhance a business’s entire outlook when it comes to safety. Staff absences are reduced due to fewer illnesses and accidents, from effective safety management and risk assessment. Additionally, employee productivity is increased along with overall company morale, meaning your companies industry reputation can only improve.

Delegates must complete a multiple choice assessment, along with a hazard spotting exercise where they must identify potential risks.

Successful completion of this course results in the delegate gaining an IOSH Accredited Working Safely Certificate.
This training course is recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme as equivalent to a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
In addition, this course can also result in CPD hours towards maintaining your membership at your professional institute.
An IOSH certificate never expires. However, it is recommended that you take a refresher course every 3 years.

After the course is complete…

Gaining a Level 1 Award for IOSH means the delegate has evidence that they are competent with occupational health and safety.

An IOSH Certificate allows delegates to send an application for a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card. This is a green labourer card. The Working Safely certificate proves their competence regarding safety in a construction environment to gain a CSCS card.

HX Training are proud to deliver IOSH Courses. We intend that delegates take the information from the courses to implement into their day-to-day lives once they are awarded an IOSH Certificate. If small changes can be made within a working day, these can last a lifetime and can truly save lives.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours can be recorded with your associated organisation from taking an IOSH Working Safely Course.
