What is Legionnaires Disease?

Legionnaires’ Disease is a serious form of lung infection, ranging from severe pneumonia to the milder Pontiac fever, caused by the waterborne bacteria Legionella. The bacteria can spread easily within man-made water systems, such as cooling towers, pipes, spa pools, and hot and cold water systems.

When the conditions are right, especially at certain temperatures, Legionella bacteria can multiply rapidly. They are easily transmitted through airborne droplets (aerosols), making inhalation of these contaminated droplets a common route of infection. However, Legionnaires’ Disease is not contagious and cannot be transmitted between people.

To effectively manage the risks and maintain safe water systems, undertaking a Legionella Training course with Hydro-X can help you gain the necessary skills and knowledge to become a competent person responsible for minimizing the risk of Legionnaires’ Disease.
