Tank Cleaning & Replacement For The Camping & Caravanning Club

Introduction

Established in 1901, The Camping and Caravanning Club is the world’s oldest and largest Club for all forms of camping. Their aim is to help people enjoy the simple pleasures that camping can bring serving over 700,000 members with over 90 sites across the UK. Hydro-X Water began working with The Camping and Caravanning Club back in 2020 after winning a 2 year tender for tank cleaning at the beginning of the pandemic.

Challenge

The Camping and Caravanning Club looked to Hydro-X Water initially for solutions regarding Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) cleaning and disinfection to ensure safe water across their portfolio of 90+ sites for their customers. This was to be performed in line with HSG274 part 2 which highlights the recommendations for Cold Water Storage Tanks (CWST) along with cleaning and disinfection.

Solution

Hydro-X Water were able to successfully and efficiently provide solutions for their cleaning and disinfection of Cold Water Storage Tanks (CWST) with nationwide coverage at their disposal. The Hydro-X Water Operations team successful worked across the country on Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) cleaning and disinfections for The Camping and Caravanning Club between April 2020 – September 2020, and April 2021 – September 2021 navigating the logistical issues the pandemic brought with it during this time. Because of the pandemic the tender was extended by a year to reduce change for The Camping and Caravanning Club.

As part of every Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) cleaning and disinfection Hydro-X Water technicians provide a complimentary tank inspection which was carried out and came in the form of photographic evidence and a list of identified non-conformances. The client was then able to request any remedial work off the back of this. A regular monthly review meeting was also held between Matt Thornton (CCC) and Antony Harker (Hydro-X Water) whereby they could identify and quote on further works at the sites. On top of this we were able to discuss and provide updates on the levels of work conducted to ensure we aligned with their legionella compliance needs.

The meetings prompted Hydro-X Water and The Camping and Caravanning Club to proactively act upon the Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) inspections which highlighted the deterioration and age of key assets which could have resulted in the closure of sites meaning a loss of revenue along with unhappy customers. The Camping and Caravanning Club have invested heavily in remedial works to rectify any issues to ensure the best possible compliance solutions for their customers and to safeguard their sites from a legal standpoint.

Value added

The one year extension on the tender allowed Hydro-X Water to review The Camping and Caravanning Club internal processes for maintaining legionella compliance this highlighted a number of areas where Hydro-X Water could assist with long term solutions to remain legally compliant.

From Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMV’s) and borehole servicing to tank cleans and inspections, Hydro-X Water were able to take on further works as a result.

Due to the good relationship between the 2 businesses, Hydro-X Water have also taken on 3 sites for borehole services as they looked to bring everything to one supplier.

Since this point, The Camping and Caravanning Club have again gone out to Tender, but have increased the scope of works to include the above services along with Annual compliance audits (temperature monitoring and calibration of their equipment at each site), on top of this they also required shower cleans and disinfection to relieve the workload of the site staff and management to focus on other areas of the business.

Hydro-X successful won this tender and are now in contract for a further 2 years with The Camping and Caravanning Club following good feedback on the relationship and competitive pricing.
