Confined Space Awareness Course Overview
A Confined Space Awareness Course will provide learners with the critical knowledge to identify any confined space. In addition, learners will finish with a clear understanding of regulations, such as Heath and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Confined Spaces Regulations 1997. As a result, learners can manage their duties successfully with a well rounded knowledge base.
The course content explores any specialist equipment that may be used for confined space entry, such as breathing air escape sets. Additionally, our Confined Space Awareness Course includes additional top person duties and how to supervise emergency procedures.

Confined Space Awareness Course Information
- Identify the difference between an enclosed space and a confined space
- Remember and be able to identify the reasonably foreseeable risks than change a space into a confined space
- Understand why some products could create a hazardous environment
- Know and understand and apply the regulations to their own work scenarios
- Understand that this is guide that many companies within the industry follow
- Identify the difference between the classifications
- Understand and take responsibility for their own role within confined space working
- Recognise the importance of risk assessments and how to reduce risk by adding control measures
- Have the confidence to accept and control permits given to staff working in confined spaces
- Recognise the health & hygiene dangers and how to control them
- Identify the level of risk (Low, Medium, or High) and ensure correct equipment is selected and used
- How they work, different options available
- Understand how they work and when they are required
- How to inspect for damage, wear and tear. Selecting the right harness for the job. How to wear and fit a harness
- What inspections must be carried out before use and how they work
- Understand the responsibilities and working as a team
- How to keep themselves safe when working in a confined space (e.g. communication)
- Recognise and identify a confined space
- Understand and apply risk assessment and permit requirements
- Understand your duties responsibilities for safe systems of working in a confined space
- Know how to inspection and use specialist safety equipment
- Conduct atmosphere monitoring for working safely
At the end of the training each delegate undertakes a multiple choice assessment consisting of 20 questions, with 15 correct answers achieving a pass grade (75%).
When choosing a Virtual Classroom course, the assessment will be completed online.
Successful candidates will achieve a City and Guilds Accredited Certificate in Confined Space Awareness Training: Low – Medium Risk
Every 3 years the certificate should be refreshed.
