Legionella Responsible Person Training with Cooling Towers Onsite
This course fulfills the ACoP L8 requirements for the Responsible Person in legionella management, specifically for overseeing hot and cold water systems, including those with cooling towers. It offers a comprehensive understanding of legal responsibilities associated with legionella control, including critical evaluation, monitoring, and compliance measures essential to effective Legionella risk assessment. Additionally, participants will develop awareness of the potential moral, legal, and financial impacts of inadequate legionella management.
A final assessment confirms that delegates complete the Legionella Responsible Person Training prepared to carry out their responsibilities as service providers effectively.

- Know the roles of the Responsible Person and Duty Holder
- Know what should be included in the Legionella Risk Assessment
- Know what makes a person competent and the importance of training
- Understand the primary aim of the Legionella Control Association
- Know when a Legionella Risk Assessment should be reviewed and why
- Know what is in a written/control scheme and how to implement it
- Know the importance of water system design and commissioning
- Understand the importance of a good schematic diagram
- Know how to interpret microbial sample results
- Know the importance of record keeping
- Know the process of cleaning and disinfection of cooling systems
- Develop or reinforce knowledge of HSE ACOP L8 and HSG274 part 2

At the end of the legionella training each delegate undertakes a multiple choice assessment consisting of 20 questions, with 15 correct answers achieving a pass grade (75%).
Where facilities permit, assessment is completed online to enable faster processing of results and certification.
On successful completion of this Legionella Responsible Person Training you will receive a City and Guilds Accredited Programme Certificate.
A digital certificate will be made available for you to download normally within 48hrs of successfully completing this course.
Paper copies of certificates can be supplied subject to a small administration fee.
This will need renewing every 2 years.
Who is Legionella Responsible Person Training Including Cooling Systems suitable for?
The Legionella Responsible Person Training Including Cooling Systems is ideal for staff members who may be appointed as a ‘Legionella Responsible Person,’ ‘Legionella Deputy Responsible Person,’ or ‘Legionella Duty Holder’ overseeing high-risk cooling systems. It is also well-suited for engineers and managers responsible for legionella management in these settings.
No previous training in legionella management is required for this course, though prior knowledge may be beneficial. For foundational learning, we recommend the Legionella Awareness Course.
If your facility does not include high-risk or cooling systems, please refer to our Legionella Responsible Person Training (HXT-02) Course instead.
About Legionella Responsible Person Training
The Legionella Responsible Person Training with Cooling Systems course aligns with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines (ACoP L8 and HSG 274), which highlight insufficient Legionella training as a key factor in outbreaks and effective water system risk management. This one-day course expands on our standard Legionella Responsible Person HXT-02 course, with this day specifically focused on managing high-risk systems, such as Evaporative Cooling Towers.
For facilities with these high-risk systems, this extended training is mandatory in place of the one-day course. The City & Guilds Accredited course is conveniently delivered onsite, providing comprehensive training over a single day.
