Course Prerequisites

Delegates should have a CSCS Skilled Joinery Card or equivalent appropriate experience prior to undertaking this fire door maintenance training.

This 2-day practical Fire Door Maintenance training course has been designed to provide the necessary training and fire repair and maintenance skills to fire door technicians or those with a CSCS skilled card (or other relevant/equivalent experience).

Covered on this course delegates will get the practical skills to be able to be able to repair and perform maintenance on a large range of fire doors to the required standards. 

This training course for fire door maintenance will cover the key differences between a certified fire door set and a non-nominal fire, whether the door can be repaired, or whether the door can no longer be repaired to the manufacturer’s approved standard and a new fire door installation is required.

This Fire Door Maintenance Training Course is spread over 2 days and can be conducted at either our specialist purpose-built fire door training rig at our specialist centre or request training on your site. (If requirements are met – for more information contact our knowledgeable support team). 

Day 1 of the fire door repair training course will cover the underpinning knowledge required in a classroom environment. This includes:

  • The use of Operation and Maintenance Manuals
  • Understanding Fire Safety Regulations and Fire Door Regulations including BS8214 and BS9999.
  • Gaining an understanding for planned maintenance and recording faults
  • Learning about evidencing requirements for fire door alterations and maintenance. 

Day 2 of this training course for maintaining fire doors is the practical element, using the purpose-built training rig. This will cover:

  • Performing checks on pre-installed door sets using industry-standard checklists
  • Perform required repairs, maintenance and manufacturer-approved adjustments.

Over the 2 days, this Fire Door Maintenance and Repair training course will cover several training aims and learning outcomes including:

  • The delegate will get an understanding of regulations and industry standards for fire door maintenance and repairs

How is this Practical Maintenance Training of all Forms of Fire Doors for Skilled Carpenters/Joiners course delivered?

 This is a 2-day classroom course that is split into 2 separate sections

Day 1: 

This is the theory element of this course and is delivered in the form of explanations from the trainer, video, group discussion and practical classroom exercises

Day 2:

This is the hands-on practical part of this course. Using our specially built state-of-the-art dedicated training rig, delegates will learn and practice carrying out practical exercises and remedial works. Delegates will be required to bring all necessary PPE and tools to complete this practical element.

Do I need to bring anything to this course?

Yes. For the practical element, you will be required to bring the necessary PPE and tools. Failure to bring these could see the delegate from being refused to complete the practical element. 

PPE:

Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Gloves, High Vis Vest

Tools:

Delegates will need to bring a full toolkit of hand and battery tools. This should include but not limited to:

  • Battery Operated Tools
    • Drill, Impact Driver, Saw, Jigsaw, Planer, Multi-tool, 16g/18g Nail Gun, 1/4 Router, Track Saw, Dust Extraction.
    • This will need to be battery-platformed and should include all associated drill bits and consumables, including flat bits, countersinks, router bits, etc.
  • Hand Operated Tools
    • Pencil, Tape Measure, Combination Square, Hammer, Screwdrivers, Allen Keys, Hacksaw, Handsaw, Flat Bar, Spirt Levels, Knife, Chisels.

  • Delegates will cover the current regulatory standards that need to be met, including mapping out use, type, and ratings of fire door
    • Delegates will gain an understanding of the need for planning repairs and maintenance
    • Delegate will learn where to find O&M Manuals as well as current regulations
  • Delegates will cover assessing the required repairs and maintenance needed
  • This course will cover site-based working methods following HSA guidance when working on fire doors
    • Delegates will gain an understanding by performing a small dynamic risk assessment based on the task about to be carried out.
