Our written scheme writing training course is a 1-day classroom course, intended to give the learner an understanding and ability to design, write and implement a written scheme of a domestic premise.
This training course for written scheme writing is a City & Guilds Accredited Programme. It is designed with duty holders, Legionella responsible persons or other competent persons in mind, to be able to implement a written scheme after a comprehensive risk assessment.
It is a requirement by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 to put into place suitable arrangements to manage health and safety. A risk assessment highlights the potential risks and a written scheme establishes the arrangements for controlling those risks as well as providing key evidence of control.

1. Planning Stage
During this objective the learner will discuss the importance of having a risk assessment and a clear communication pathway, they discuss agreeing on the scope and purpose of a written scheme, and the construction of action and reaction plans.
This gives learners an understanding of the need to plan and implement the documents and plans properly.
2. Writing Stage
In the writing stage of the learning objectives in this Written Scheme Writing for Domestic Premises training the learners will discuss the creation and implementation of the written scheme of control including what is required, what needs to be considered how it can be implemented effectively.
This gives the learner the understanding and skills to be able to create and implement a written scheme, with consideration of responsibilities and timeframes based on planning during learning objective 1.
3. Review Stage
Within the review stage for this City & Guilds accredited course, the learners discuss the data collected by the actions in the written control scheme, the effectiveness of the controls and how data must determine the alterations required to maintain the accuracy and effectiveness of control.
By doing this the learner gains an understanding of how to use and assess collected data, assess effectiveness and plan action and reaction in light of the data collected.
At the end of this written scheme training course, the delegate will have a clearer understanding of how to write a written scheme and will be able to produce clear and concise plans for designing, writing and implementing a written scheme.
What will be achieved by attending this Written Scheme Writing for Domestic Premises course?
Learners who successfully complete the course and pass the multiple choice assessment will receive a City & Guilds Accredited Programme certificate in Written Scheme Writing for Domestic Premises. This certificate of competence should be renewed every 2 years.
Course Information
- Planning – Discuss the importance of having a risk assessment and a communication pathway in place, agreeing on the scope and purpose of the written scheme and have in place plans for action and reaction.
- The delegate will gain an understanding of the need for proper planning and implementation of the aforementioned documents and plans.
- Writing – Discuss how to create a written scheme, what’s required, what to consider, what should be included and what shouldn’t
- The learner at the end of the course will be able to write a written scheme, forming actions and assigning responsibilities and timeframes using the information collected during the planning stages.
- Review – Discuss what the data collected by the actions in the written scheme tells us about the effectiveness of our controls, how the data must determine the alterations required to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of control.
- The delegate will be able to use the collected data from the actions in the plan to confirm the effectiveness of the plan and plan for action and reaction to results.
At the end of the Written Scheme training, each delegate undertakes a multiple choice assessment. This consists of 20 questions with 15 correct answers achieving a pass grade (75%).
If you are taking the Virtual Classroom course, assessments will be completed online to enable faster processing of results and certification.
On successful completion of this Written Scheme Writing for Domestic Premises, you will receive a City and Guilds Accredited Programme Certificate.
Certificates will be emailed to the delegate within 7 working Days
