Course Prerequisites

Delegates should have a CSCS Skilled Joinery Card or equivalent appropriate experience prior to undertaking this fire door installation training.

Fire Door Installation Training Course Overview

This 2 day City & Guilds Accredited Programme covers the essential theory surrounding fire doors and the practical side of correctly installing a fire door following guidelines and legislation. 

It has been designed with fire door technicians or qualified joiners in mind (CSCS Skilled Joinery Card or equivalent appropriate experience) to give them the necessary skill set to install a wide range of fire doors to the required industry standards.

This Fire Door Installation training course is split over 2 days at either one of our dedicated training centres or an onsite location, with day 1 covering the theory surrounding the correct installation of fire doors. This includes covering:

  • Fire Door regulations and legislation 
  • Fire Door reporting
  • How to evidence work correctly
  • Best Practice theory

Upon completing day 1, delegates will then go on to a practical session on day 2 either using our purpose-built, bespoke training rig or on-site at your premise (if requirements are met – for more information contact our knowledgeable support team).

During the fire door installation practical phases of this training course, delegates will get the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to fit a range of different fire doors, with the learning outcome of being able to fit an FD30 door being covered. 

After delegates have fitted their doors, they will perform industry-standard checks on the door sets, giving the delegates the chance to make any alterations or adjustments

Do I need to bring anything to this course?

Yes. For the practical element, you will be required to bring the necessary PPE and tools. Failure to bring these could see the delegate from being refused to complete the practical element. 

PPE:

Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Gloves, High Vis Vest

Tools:

Delegates will need to bring a full toolkit of hand and battery tools. This should include but not limited to:

  • Battery Operated Tools
    • Drill, Impact Driver, Saw, Jigsaw, Planer, Multi-tool, 16g/18g Nail Gun, 1/4 Router, Track Saw, Dust Extraction.
    • This will need to be battery-platformed and should include all associated drill bits and consumables, including flat bits, countersinks, router bits, etc.
  • Hand Operated Tools
    • Pencil, Tape Measure, Combination Square, Hammer, Screwdrivers, Allen Keys, Hacksaw, Handsaw, Flat Bar, Spirt Levels, Knife, Chisels.

 How is this Fire Door Installation course delivered?

This is 2 day classroom course that is split into 2 separate sections

Day 1: 

This is the theory element of this course, and is delivered in the form of explanations from the trainer, video, group discussion and practical classroom exercises

Day 2:

This is the hands-on practical part of this course. Using our specially built state-of-the-art dedicated training rig, delegates will learn and practice installing a range of FD30 fire doors, inspecting doors, and completing any approved alterations or remediations. Delegates will be required to bring all necessary PPE and tools to complete this practical element.

  • Delegates will learn how to plan fire door fitting
    • They will look at the current regulatory standards
    • Mapping out use, type and ratings of fire door
  • By the end of the course, the delegate will be able to understand the proper need for the planning/selection process of fire doors
  • They will be able to find the current regulation on fire doors
  • On this Fire Door Installation course delegates will learn site-based working methods following the guidance from HSE on working with fire doors.
  • By the end of this course, delegates will be able to perform a dynamic risk assessment on tasks that need to be carried out.
  • Delegates will cover an in-depth breakdown of a manufacturer’s installation guide
    • This includes British Standards Counterparts mentioned in the installation guide & testing guide
  • By the end of this course, delegates will know to breakdown & simplify manufactures data
  • During this learning outcome, delegates will cover the importance of following the installation data provide
    • This will include carrying out any alterations, including to the structural openings
  • Delegates will get a hands-on opportunity to fit an FD30 door
    • Alongside any alternations required
  • By the end of this Fire Door Installation training course, the delegate will be able to identify which elements are required to perform a fire door fit
  • Delegates will be assessed on their skill set and techniques for door installation
    • Ensuring compliance is meet
    • Ensuring the limit the chances of damages during the installation process
  • Delegates will cover how to inspect and snag all doors
    • They will then learn to perform any remedial work that is required
  • By the end of this course, delegates will be able to assess and perform a fire door inspection
    • They will also be able to complete and remedial competently
  • The learner will cover how to record all work carried out on fire doors
    • They will cover the legal requirement of evidence, the golden thread principle using an appropriate methodology/platform
  • The delegate will get hands-on experience using different software to evidence compliance
  • The delegate will gain an understanding of the importance of ongoing inspections
    • They will gain knowledge about the requirement to record the information
  • Delegates will gain an understanding of the requirement for planned preventative maintenance inspections

The assessment for this course is completed in 2 parts:

Day 1:

An open-book multiple-choice assessment

Day 2:

A practical assessment of the full fitting of an FD30 fire door

Successful candidates will achieve a City & Guilds Accredited Program Certificate in Fire Training: Fire Door Installation

This should be refreshed every 3 years.
