This Competent Person Ventilation course is delivered over two days, with the course examining ventilation requirements across a range of systems in line with current industry best practice, equipping delegates with the practical knowledge needed to work safely and effectively. It also introduces the Ventilation Safety Group and outlines how the Authorised Person’s responsibilities interact with other key roles within it.
The Competent Person Ventilation training has also been designed for anyone working towards becoming a Competent person, building a solid understanding of basic principles and best practice but has also can also to used as a refresher for Authorised Persons, on key industry practices, practical knowledge and legislation.

Guidance and Standards
- At the end of this course delegates will leave be able to work with HTM 03-01, TR19 and HSG258 confidently
- Gain knowledge on how to compile and maintain an Asset Register
- Understand how to set up, manage, and review a maintenance schedule
- Delegates will learn about the Principal and Sub-Components of Mechanical Ventilation Systems (MVS)
- Cover how to conduct Rounds on MVS, including identifying faults and non-conformances
- Learn about the documentation required for evidential governance when managing Specialised MVS
- This course covers the basic fluid mechanics, physics, and mathematics appropriate to an MVS setting
- Delegates will gain a reminder on workplace safety, including safe systems of work
- Gain an introduction to Managerial Methods, including delegation, reporting, and escalation procedures
Delegates will demonstrate their understanding with a mixture of written tests or a viva voce examination.
An Authorised Person Mechanical Certificate will be provided upon successful completion.
