Legionella Awareness Training Summary – HXT-W01
This City & Guilds accredited legionella awareness training course (HXT-W01) is a one-day classroom programme for anyone who works with, or around, hot and cold water systems and needs a thorough grounding in Legionella bacteria, Legionnaires’ disease, and the control measures required under HSE’s ACoP L8 and HSG274 guidance. It is the essential entry-level qualification for landlords, facilities managers, building owners, and anyone with day-to-day responsibility for water system hygiene — but who is not the appointed Responsible Person.
Delegates looking for more advanced courses can find them here: Legionella Responsible Person Training and Legionella Responsible Person with Cooling Towers.
This Legionella awareness course is delivered in the classroom with one of our expert Legionella Awareness trainers. For alternative methods of delivery, please see the following course pages:

How is this Legionella Awareness Course Delivered?
The classroom course is delivered in person by one of our expert Legionella trainers. It is also available in three alternative formats — all City & Guilds accredited:
- Classroom (this page) — 1 day at HQ, Solihull, or Hemel Hempstead, from £265
- Live Virtual Classroom — identical content delivered online with a live trainer
- eLearning — self-paced online course, suitable for staff with minimal water hygiene contact
- On-Site — delivered at your premises for teams of delegates (free quote available)
Throughout the Legionella Awareness course, we help candidates to understand the risk of Legionnaires’ disease. Additionally, candidates know how to implement actions to minimise the risk and control measures.

Do I need Legionella Awareness Training?
If you have responsibility for managing or working with water systems that could harbour Legionella bacteria, then yes — appropriate training is a legal requirement. The HSE’s ACoP L8 guidance explicitly identifies lack of training as a key causative factor in Legionella outbreaks. Completing this accredited legionella awareness course demonstrates you have met the entry-level training requirement set out in ACoP L8 and HSG274.
