Virtual Legionella Training: Cooling Systems Operative Training Course Overview
This 1/2 day Virtual Legionella Training Cooling Systems Operatives course is designed for personnel working with cooling towers or evaporative cooling systems. It provides essential health and safety knowledge, focusing on the risks associated with Legionella bacteria.
The course covers key legislation and guidance, including Acop L8, HSG 274 Part 1 as well as COSHH, The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, and the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condenser Regulation 1992 (NCTEC)
In addition to legal requirements, delegates will gain a deeper understanding of cooling system operations, including commissioning, monitoring, sampling, inspections, and the cleaning and disinfection of cooling towers. This course reinforces practical knowledge and ensures compliance with health and safety standards.
This training course is delivered through a live virtual classroom on our specialist platform. How is the Legionella Training Cooling Systems Operative course delivered?
This City & Guilds Accredited training programme is delivered through an online platform with instructor-led discussions and videos. It is concluded with an online multiple-choice assessment.
The training is also available as an on-site dedicated course at your premises or as an open classroom session at our South Yorkshire training HQ.
What Accredited Certificate will I receive?
Successful delegates will be awarded a City & Guilds Accredited Certificate in Legionella Training: Cooling Systems Operatives. It is recommended that this certificate is refreshed every two years.

- To gain an understanding of guidance on Cooling Towers including NCTEC
- To gain knowledge of fluid categories and the risk cooling tower water carries
- The learner will gain knowledge of being able to identify what drift reducers function is
- For delegates to be able to identify what the fill packs function is
- To gain an understanding of how far away air inlets and opening windows should be from a cooling systems
- To learn what a water treatment program does
- The learner will gain a working knowledge of what is in a written/control scheme and how to implement it for cooling systems
- The delegates will gain an understanding of the measurement initials connected with cooling systems
- The learners will get the knowledge of cleaning and disinfection processes for cooling systems
This course aims to give the delegates the knowledge and skills required for effective Legionella Management
At the end of the cooling systems training, each delegate undertakes a multiple-choice assessment consisting of 16 questions. 12 correct answers achieve a passing grade (75%).
On successfully completing the Legionella Training: Cooling Systems, you will receive a City and Guilds Accredited Programme Certificate.
This will need to be renewed every 2 years.
